Caran D’Ache

The Fabrique genevoise de crayons was founded in Geneva in 1915 when Arnold Schweitzer purchased the Ecridor Pencil Factory. In 1924, Arnold Schweitzer named his new company after Caran d’Ache, the nickname of the French satiric political cartoonist Emmanuel Poiré (who in turn took his name from карандаш (karandash), the Russian word for pencil..

The company Produced many beautiful writing instrument and in 1929 patented the 1st mechanical Pencil..

Magnificant Limited Edition Caran d’Ache “La Modernista” in Rhodium Filled Solid Sterling Silver with Hand applied Enamelling. Number 1787 of only 1888 made. Acclaimed as the most innovative and original pen by a panel of 100 experts at the Paris Pen Show in November 1995. In Near Mint condition with just a few marks on the Rhodium plating but no dents or damage. Fitted with the original 18kt white gold medium tipped nib. Cartridge fill but complete with original converter. Very Large Heavy pen with over 100 grams of silver. Measures 153 mm long capped.
